2017: A Year Full of Amazing Painting Trends
It’s almost 2018, and that means that a whole year of painting trends is just about behind us.
But not all of the trends we saw in exterior house paint were bad. In fact, 2017 brought a diverse and interesting palette to the Minneapolis – Saint Paul area here in Minnesota. Homeowners everywhere chose inventive, interesting, and sometimes tried and true paint colors for their homes.
In many ways, 2017 was a year filled with neutrality. Whites and off-whites don’t go out of style in the way that many colors can, and lots of homeowners chose to whip out whites and different shades of it for use on their homes.
However, we also saw some more vibrant colors this year. Blues are consistently popular, but some homeowners decided on bold and vibrant colors to replace outdated shades and styles.
The color palette above contains just a few shades of blue that were popular this year, according to Pantone. Interestingly enough, more subtle shades sit alongside some very deep blues. If you’ve ever considered painting your house in a color that seems more bold and vibrant, you would not be outside of the style of 2017.
The Color of the Year in 2017
This year, Pantone also announced the color that they chose as The Color of the Year for 2017. Greenery was selected for the honor. It can definitely be said that the color gained quite a bit of momentum and became a staple for many interior decorating plans.
But why not bring greenery to your home’s exterior as well?
You may not ever have thought to paint your house in this kind of green shade, but maybe you should consider it! A brighter green like this has the potential to be a bit overbearing when an entire house is coated in it, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t great potential to use it as an accent. Maybe your house could be painted white and include some greenery accents, or maybe you just want to add greenery into your color scheme somewhere.
It’s definitely an inventive way to make your house stand out. And there’s no color considered to be more modern than the current color of the year.
Isn’t 2017’s Painting Season Over in Minnesota?
If you’re asking this question, then that’s fair enough. The ideal temperature for painting is higher than what we’re experiencing right now. As I’m writing this, the Minneapolis – Saint Paul area is actually experiencing the first snowfall of the year.
There may not be another day this year that’s suitable to paint your house. That being said, it’s never too early to start planning for next year! Choosing which colors to paint your house is a big decision, and most people only do it once every few years (or less).
Don’t stress out too much about following the latest trends, but don’t be afraid to get some inspiration either! I’ve listed out some of my favorite of the latest color schemes I’m seeing including blues, greenery, and whites, but that doesn’t mean that your selection is at all limited.
In fact, the options are practically limitless. Whether you’re looking to modernize your home or do something bold, I’d love to partner with you to ensure that your home is beautifully and seamlessly painted in a way that upholds my standard for excellence.
